The U.S. General Services Administration has selected
Philadelphia-based USA Environmental Management Inc. to do site demolition and
lot consolidation work for the planned federal courthouse in Harrisburg.
The contract with USA Environmental is for $373,000. The scope of
the work includes the removal of nine three-story row homes and one
single-story existing commercial structure, according to the GSA.
The courthouse is to be built on the northeast corner of
Sixth and Reily streets in Midtown. In 2004, Congress allocated $26 million for
site acquisition and design of the project, which calls for a 265,000-square-foot courthouse
on one new property bounded by Reily, Sixth, Boyd, Wallace, Harris and Seventh
streets.
There has been no word on when additional funds for the
project will be allocated. The total project was previously estimated to cost
$144 million.
This site work is expected to be completed by Sept. 15,
according to the GSA.
