The Democratic National Convention Committee announced
Thursday its selection of Philadelphia-based Perryman Building and Construction
as its construction services firm.
Led by Angelo Perryman, the minority-owned firm will be
responsible for construction operations before, during and after the July 25-28
convention, with most of their work focused on the Wells Fargo Center.
“I know they will be a strong partner in turning the
Wells Fargo Center into the Convention Hall. This construction contract will
help our Convention remain on time, on task and on budget," said Rev. Leah
D. Daughtry, CEO of the DNC, reiterating her tag line.
Several firms, the majority from our area, submitted
formal plans to the Committee.
The construction operations work expected of Perryman
could range from flooring and painting to air conditioning needs.
“It is an honor to be a part of Philadelphia’s Democratic
National Convention, and we are excited for the opportunity to build the
convention from the ground up in our own backyard,” said Perryman, the
company's president and CEO.
A separate Request for Proposals (RFP) went out Wednesday
asking for firms' bids on tenting, pavilions and other temporary structures.
Once that bidding process is complete, the DNCC will have a clearer idea of
whether Perryman will be responsible for any temporary structures.
