The Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters’
100,000-square-foot complex for carpenter apprenticeships is on track
for completion in December 2017.
Over the same, a collection of key figures discussed apprenticeship opportunities in the state of New Jersey and how they could be expanded upon. This new facility was part of the discussion.
The two-story facility with 13 classrooms, 14 welding booths and a 300-seat theater is meant to attract over 1,000 carpenter apprentices and use modern technology and skills to prepare workers for the expectations of their trade.
In addition to core curriculum, the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters’ intends to provide access to new technologies such as Building Information Modeling and a new “Total Station” program. The facility will also include an overhead bridge crane for rigging steel concrete forms, pile driving materials and millwright equipment.
Ridgeley Hutchinson, executive director of New Jersey Carpenters Apprentice Training and Education Fund, said apprenticeships are integral to preparing workers for their trade.
“Apprentice programs prepare people for the work that takes place in our industry,” Hutchinson said in a release sent to NJBIZ.
