Inspira Health Network said Tuesday it will open
a $6.9 million radiation therapy center for cancer patients at its Woodbury
campus in Gloucester County next year.
The 6,000-square-foot facility will, according to the
South Jersey Health System, feature the SmartVue Natural Light Window, which is
designed to eliminate the claustrophobic confines of the typical linear
accelerator treatment room. The SmartVue window allows natural light directly
into the room, providing patients with a view of an outside garden before and
after the treatment process.
“This
ground-breaking new system adds an outside view to the treatment room without
affecting the integrity of the surrounding radiation shielding,” said Mario Sergi, director of medical imaging,
radiation oncology, and oncology data services at Inspira. “By combining
state-of-the-art radiation therapy equipment with a unique healing environment,
our therapists and staff will be able to offer patients in the region with a
new approach to cancer treatment.”
Inspira, based in Mullica Hill, New Jersey, is working
with Saphire + Albarran Architecture in Pennington, New Jersey, and SmartVue
product developer Veritas Medical Solutions of Harleysville,
Pennsylvania, on the development of the center. The center, scheduled to open
this spring, will be located across from Inspira Medical Center Woodbury on Oak
Street.
“Inspira has been providing radiation oncology services
to patients in South Jersey for more than 35 years and we are pleased to be
able to expand our program to a brand new facility on our Woodbury campus,”
said Patrick Nolan, chief operating officer at Inspira
Medical Center Woodbury. “We know how important it is for people in our
community who are actively seeking cancer treatment to have advanced care right
here in their own backyard.”
