Construction in and around the Suburban Square outdoor
shopping mall and the Ardmore station on SEPTA's Regional Rail line shows no
signs of slowing down – with officials discussing Tuesday a project that would
add two stories to the Christian Science Reading Room.
Located on Rittenhouse Place – not far from Lower Merion
Township's offices, the one-story Christian Science Reading Room would be
topped with two floors of apartments, according to Main Line Media News.
Lower Merion Historic Architectural Review Board
discussed the project in its Tuesday morning meeting, eventually voting to table
the plan due to some concerns raised by board members and a neighboring
property owner.
Al Levy, owner of the New York Painters Supply
next door, was concerned over blocking the side windows for a second-floor
apartment in his building that faces the direction of the reading room
building.
The addition also drew questions over how well it fits
aesthetically with the existing building, Main Line Media News said.
While the developers reconsider the project, Ardmore
continues to undergo lots of changes. Construction is happening now at Suburban Square,
an effort to expand certain retail space and add parking to the Main Line mall.
Well-known Philadelphia developer Dranoff Properties, despite controversy, is
bringing a new mixed-use property to the Cricket Avenue parking lot that is
behind a string of Lancaster Avenue businesses. Condos are also going up where
the Ardmore YMCA once stood.
