Whirlpool to build 1.1 million-square-foot facility

A new 1,100,000-square-foot facility is being built in Silver Spring Township that will serve as a distribution center for a company with a familiar name.

Whirlpool is building the new distribution center at 100 Fry Drive that will provide storage for major appliances from all of the company's brands and product categories, including laundry, refrigeration, cooking and dishwashing.

The new facility will be 300,000-square-feet larger than the company's current Carlisle-area distribution center which is in Dickinson Township. The facility will be managed by Penske Logistics. The company said in an e-mail that it will transition its footprint from the current facility into the new building in Silver Spring Township. The 90 employees, who are Penske employees, will transition to the new facility and Whirlpool will monitor the need for additional employees.

Exeter Property Group and Penntex Construction will develop and construct the property. The new center in Silver Spring Township is in the New Kingstown area, and is expected to become operational in the third-quarter of 2017. A ground-breaking ceremony was held on Wednesday.
Whirlpool Corporation has around 97,000 employees and 70 manufacturing and technology research centers throughout the world.
