The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia is in the
early stages of planning a mixed-use development with possible residential
towers just north of Center City's Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul.
The Archdiocese is scheduled to present a master plan for
its proposed development at 17th and Vine Streets to the Logan Square
Neighborhood Association on Oct. 24, association president Drew Murray said in
an interview Monday.
In an email, spokeman Ken Gavin said the Archdiocese
began exploring "creative options" for a parking lot on its property
bordering Benjamin Franklin Parkway after a previous effort to market the land
did not result in a deal.
"We are currently in a conceptual stage," Gavin
said. "Any plan would preserve the dignity of the Cathedral Basilica of
SS. Peter and Paul."
