The wait may soon be over for developers in Philadelphia
counting on grants from a state assistance program that had been placed on a
hiatus by the Pennsylvania budget impasse that lasted until March.
Two Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grants
have been announced for projects outside Philadelphia and more award
announcements are expected "in the coming days and weeks," Jeffrey
Sheridan, a spokesman for Gov. Wolf, said in an email.
The Wolf administration ceased awarding RACP grants
during the nine-month impasse, prompting developers anticipating funds
from the program to delay - and consider downgrading - their plans
for the city. Impacted projects include the redevelopment of
the Gallery at Market East shopping mall, the SLS Lux hotel and condo tower on South Broad Street, and the Rail
Park project north of Center City.
The two recent awards were a $2-million grant for
new engineering facilities
at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and a $3.5-million
grant to complete work on
the Third Street commercial corridor in Harrisburg.
