Cerner Corp. is growing its Malvern, Pennsylvania
operations with plans to create up to 250 new, “high-wage” jobs in Chester
County.
Last year, Cerner acquired Siemens Health Services’
health information technology business unit, based in the Great Valley
Corporate Center, in a deal valued at $1.3 billion.
The plans to expand the Malvern unit — which include
upgrading the former Siemens facility and purchasing new equipment — was
announced Monday by state Sen. Andy Dinniman. He has been involved in
negotiations with Cerner and the Wolf Administration’s Governor’s Action Team
to keep the company in Chester County to retain existing jobs and create new
ones.
Those discussions led to a financing package for Cerner
that includes a $1.25 million Pennsylvania First program grant from
Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
As part of the agreement, Cerner will invest more than
$75 million in the expansion project and committed to creating up to 250 new,
full-time jobs, while retaining more than 2,000 existing jobs at the site, over
the next three years.
The assistance is contingent upon Cerner (NASDAQ: CERN),
which is based in North Kansas City, Missouri, submitting complete applications
and meeting all of the program guidelines and commitments, Dinniman said.
“As a company at the intersection of health care and
information technology, Cerner is experiencing tremendous growth, and we plan
to maintain a strong presence in Malvern,” said Zane Burke, president of Cerner,
in a prepared statement.
