York Building Products buys Maryland company

York Building Products said it has bought a suburban Baltimore concrete products manufacturer, adding some 20 employees and expanding its presence in the Baltimore marketplace.

The addition “will help ensure the future growth of the York Building Products brand, and we are excited about the integration of products between the two companies,” Jason Schmitz, York’s vice president of operations, said in the release.

The move will expand York's number of employees from 440 to 460, its officials said Monday.
Cinder & Concrete, founded in 1923, has been a family-run business since its inception, with fourth-generation family members currently running its operations.

It manufactures standard concrete masonry units, and is a regional distributor of hardscape products and building materials.

York Building Products, a division of the Stewart Companies, is a building products manufacturer with locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia.

Founded in 1939, the company produces concrete masonry units, retaining wall block, concrete pavers and colored masonry cements. In addition, through sand and gravel plants in Maryland and limestone quarries in Pennsylvania, York is a leading supplier of aggregates to the region.
