Wal-Mart to build supercenter in Industrial Park VII

A new Wal-Mart Supercenter is coming to an industrial park near you.

The retailer has announced it will be locating a 158,000-square-foot store in Industrial Park VII in Bethlehem, the same complex as Wal-Mart’s e-commerce fulfillment center that opened last year.

While it may seem a bit odd to have a retail store in an industrial park, the supercenter will be at the intersection of Hellertown Road and Commerce Center Boulevard in Bethlehem at the entrance to the park, so the public won’t have to drive deep into the industrial park to shop.

"This space in the Lehigh Valley Industrial Park VII offers area shoppers the convenience of one-stop shopping closer to home. The new supercenter will be easily-accessible for area residents, as it's located just off Route 78," said Jason Klipa, Wal-Mart director of public affairs & government relations for Pennsylvania.

The closest Wal-Mart to this location is on Linden Street in Bethlehem.

Wal-Mart said the supercenter will be the third major development it has undertaken in Bethlehem in the past few years.

In 2015, it opened two fulfillment centers, the one in Industrial Park VII and one in the Majestic Bethlehem Center.

The new retail store will bring roughly 300 jobs to the area. As a supercenter, it will be a large-format Wal-Mart store that offers groceries, a garden center and a full-service pharmacy.
