Construction firm likely to move headquarters to Allentown

A prominent construction firm with a deal to build a 12-story office building in downtown Allentown could be moving its headquarters there, as well.

Serfass Development Partners of North Whitehall Township is the planning and construction manager of the $45 million Tower 6 project planned for the corner of Hamilton and Sixth streets in Allentown.

While a decision on what Serfass will do to do with its North Whitehall office hasn’t been reached, it appears likely that the firm, which has about 30 employees, will not be located there once the new structure is built, according to Kevin Serfass, vice president of the firm.

“We haven’t decided what we are going to do,” Serfass said. “Most of our office staff will be relocated to Tower 6. Most likely we will be leasing or selling the office space [in North Whitehall].”

Serfass listed several advantages to locating the firm downtown.

“We like the energy of the downtown,” he said. “We think there’s good opportunity to cross-sell with other tenants there, and also being in a building as unique and signature as Tower 6, it gives us a leg up on our competition.”

Developer J.B. Reilly, president and CEO of City Center Investment Corp., plans to build Tower 6, his newest Class-A building, with a model that lets businesses own their own office space. Construction could start in the fall, with first occupancy by late 2017, with an early 2018 opening.

Spillman Farmer Architects of Bethlehem is designing the building.
