Nearly two years and $164 million later, SugarHouse
Casino's renovation and expansion project is complete.
Casino officials will be joined Monday by State Senator Larry
Farnese, City Councilman Mark
Squilla; City Council President Darrell
Clarke and Congressman Bob
Brady for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Delaware Avenue destination.
During the ceremony, SugarHouse officials will also give
details on its just announced restaurant Revolution Grill, which on the
casino's website reads will be "serving up fresh ingredients, delightful
flavors and and unique combinations of your everyday favorites."
The expansion project brought several other new
restaurants to Fishtown. Local favorites Geno's Steaks, Tacconelli's Pizzeria and Saxbys Coffee now
have spaces in the casino and a high-end steakhouse, Hugo's Frog Bar
and Chop House, will has its first and only Philadelphia location at
SugarHouse. And the Poker Night in America room has also been added.
An Asian-fare concept will also debut later this year.
The cigar bar is also slated to open, but its opening date is yet to be
determined.
Construction also included building a parking garage and
increasing the casino size by more than 150,000 square feet.
Casino officials previously estimated that once complete,
the expansion will generate about 500 new jobs and will result in $1 million to
the Penn Treaty Special Services District for economic development in Fishtown
and surrounding neighborhoods.
The casino broke ground on the expansion last July.
