Industrial services provider establishes U.S. HQ in Philadelphia, adds jobs

Pruftechnik, a global provider of high-quality testing and measuring systems for industrial maintenance, is establishing a U.S. headquarters in Philadelphia.

The German company will add 35 new jobs to region, investing $1.4 million in the project. The decision comes a few months after the Kenney Administration said Germany would be a focus of efforts to recruit international businesses to the city.

Pruftechnik's Philadelphia office will hold sales and management positions at a renovated building on Bartram Avenue. Pruftechnik Services, a subsidiary that provides specialized machinery services, will also reside in the city.

“The new operation enables Pruftechnik to bridge the gap between R&D, product management, international sales and production in Germany, and the end-user community in the United States," said Florian Buder, Pruftechnik's North American CEO. "The ‘factory direct’ approach makes us more customer-centric.”

Former Mayor Michael Nutter emphasized Israel as a partner in commerce in Philadelphia but also spent some time in Germany during his international travels. Mayor Jim Kenney has expressed interest in courting German and Asian firms for expansion to Philadelphia.

Governor Tom Wolf's office coordinated a funding proposal from the Department of Community and Economic Development that awarded $70,000 in tax credits to be distributed upon new job creation, and over $21,000 for employee training.

"[This] is another indicator that businesses are feeling confident in Pennsylvania as the best place to start and grow their companies," Wolf said.

Pruftechnik was founded purely as a sales company in Germany in 1972 before expanding into the laser optical alignment systems market 10 years later. Pruftechnik still holds a strong position in that marketplace today, opening subsidiaries across Europe. The company opened shop in the U.S. in 2005.
