The highly anticipated wait for construction to begin on
Memorial Hospital in York is over.
Construction preparation in West Manchester Township will
officially start March 21, and the project should be complete in late 2017,
according to a news release.
A new roadway will be the start of construction. It will
be called “Old Memorial Way,” and people will be able to access it from both
Loucks Road and Roosevelt Avenue.
Public walking trails on the property, which was
previously Hawk Lake Golf Course, will be closed starting March 21 until the
construction is complete.
Once the $120 million facility is built, the trails will
be rerouted around the new hospital.
Last week, construction was still pending due to a few
remaining approvals.
The new hospital, located at 1605 Loucks Road, will be a
220,000-square-foot facility with four floors and 102 beds — a $120 million
project.
There are still no plans as to what will happen with the
current Spring Garden Township-based hospital once it is vacated, spokesman
Jason McSherry said.
A ceremony for ground breaking is not yet scheduled,
according to the news release.
