A Wilmington property is getting a complete face lift -
redesigned to become home to several residents and businesses.
On Wednesday, Wilmington Mayor Dennis P. Williams
announced a $40 million redevelopment project to transform 2000 Pennsylvania
Avenue into a luxury, high-rise property.
"Creating more modern and creative housing
opportunities, such as this Pennsylvania Avenue redevelopment project, will not
only attract new residents to the City of Wilmington but also serve as a
catalyst for other economic initiatives," Williams said.
According to officials, the Pennsylvania Avenue property
is in the perfect place, connecting people to multiple communities such as
Wawaset Park, Trolley Square, and Little Italy. The project is expected to take
20 months.
Angela Tsionas of Tsionas Properties LLC and Mike
Hoffman, an attorney with Tarabicos Grosso, LLP will lead redevelopment plans.
On the first floor of the property, there will be retail
and commercial space available for restaurants and more. Project leaders have
said combining residential properties and commercial spaces will complement
each other bringing a new energy to the city.
"As the project advances, it will set the tone for
additional redevelopment projects which will, one-by-one, bring vibrancy to the
area and dramatically improve the Union Street Corridor," Mike Hoffman
said.
