The former Yorktowne Business Institute on West Seventh
Avenue in North York has been listed for sale after closing suddenly last
month.
The property, priced at $695,000, includes the
26,214-square-foot building and 1.23 acres of land consisting of two parcels.
According to a listing on LoopNet.com, the facility
houses 12 classrooms, a library, a student lounge and administrative offices.
The building could be used as a school, church, day care, group home or
apartment conversion, the listing said. The property can be purchased or leased
in two sections.
Opened in 1976, the Yorktowne Business Institute offered
a variety of programs in accounting, business management, the culinary arts and
health care. Media reports noted that the school's enrollment had dwindled from
300 to 60 in its last decade and that it had been losing money.
School officials worked with area trade and technical
schools to accept the remaining students at the end of the spring semester.
Nearly 40 faculty and staff lost their jobs because of the closure.
