The Butz Corporate Center is growing again.
Alvin H. Butz Inc. broke ground Tuesday on its second
expansion at the downtown Allentown office complex at Ninth and Hamilton
streets in the city – a 60,000-square-foot project.
Butz has been headquartered there since 2006, when it
moved its offices from South Whitehall Township to what was – at the time – a
struggling urban corridor.
Company officials had expressed hopes of encouraging
other businesses to located and invest in the downtown, as well.
Now the office complex is at the center of a bustling new
business district, which came about – at least in part -- by the creation of
the Neighborhood Improvement Zone special tax district in 2009.
“Our firm and the Butz family are overwhelmed with the
progress and revitalization taking place in downtown Allentown thanks to the
Neighborhood Improvement Zone and investment from other private developers like
City Center and The Waterfront,” said Greg L. Butz, president and CEO of Alvin
H. Butz Inc. “We never dreamed there would be this much progress in Allentown
when we moved our headquarters here 10 years ago; it has been an amazing
adventure, and we’re so proud to play a part in its continued growth.”
The first expansion of the Butz Corporate Center, known
as Phase II, was built in 2013.
The new Phase III will include 60,000 square feet of class-A
office space on seven floors as well as one level of parking with 43 spaces.
Altogether, there is space for potentially 175 jobs.
Nancy Unangst of Keller Williams is the leasing agent.
United Fiber and Data, one of Phase II’s major tenants,
will move its regional sales headquarters to Phase III.
The company will occupy one floor. The remaining 52,000
square feet of office space are available for lease.
Designed by Roberson Butz Architects, the building
features a black façade juxtaposed against the steely glass backdrop of the
Butz Corporate Center Phase I and II building. Alvin H. Butz Inc. will be the
construction manager on the project, which is expected to be completed next
spring.
