Bank, restaurants approved for vacant property in Allentown

A Bethlehem developer will build a bank and two restaurants at the site of the vacant Wenz Cemetery Memorial Co. on West Hamilton and South Lafayette streets in Allentown.

The Allentown Planning Commission gave final approval to the project Tuesday.

“We hope to start construction in mid-fall,” said Joe Posh, managing partner of Posh Properties of Bethlehem. The $3.2 million project could be finished by June of next year, he said.

The bank would be 3,000 square feet, one restaurant would be 7,500 square feet and the second restaurant, a fast-food establishment, would be 1,800 square feet. The restaurants would be behind the bank.

The three businesses would be on 2 ½ acres.

“We think it’s a good spot for these types of uses,” Posh said.

The building has been vacant for several years, he said.

Bohler Engineering, which has an office in Upper Saucon Township, is the engineer. The developer has not selected a construction firm.
