NORTH WALES Officials in North Wales are weighing a
proposal to build townhouses on the site of an 1890s-era inn.
The historic building at the corner of Fifth and Walnut
Streets was opened as the Colonial Inn. It most recently held McKeever's
Tavern, which closed in 2014 after 28 years.
Developer Greg Flynn wants to demolish the building and
replace it with 10 townhouses, Borough Manager Dan DeMeno said. The plan was
offered in place of a larger-scale proposal for an apartment complex that drew
opposition from residents last year.
The Borough Council voted to take no position on the
project as it goes before the zoning board for hearings on zoning variances, DeMeno
said.
"Everybody was sort of neutral," he said.
The borough's zoning board will hold a hearing next
Tuesday at 7 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church on Main Street.
