Lehigh Valley Health Network will open a second medical
center in Palmer Township, this time focusing on children's health.
Construction has begun on the Health Center at Palmer
Township at 3701 Corriere Road, off Route 248, and it is expected to open next
summer, according to the health network.
LVHN officials declined to disclose the cost to build the
two-story, 57,000-square-foot center.
The developer, Anchor Health Properties, based in
Wilmington, Del., has designed and built other LVHN facilities.
The Health Center at Palmer Township will create about
130 mostly new positions.
The medical center will provide a variety of services,
but will “concentrate on the needs of growing families” in Northampton County,”
LVHN said. The emphasis will be on treating patients from birth through young
adulthood. The building will have a separate entrance for children.
The new center is bigger than the Health Center at Easton
being built by developer J.G. Petrucci of Bethlehem and Asbury, N.J., less than
three miles away at the site of the former Bimbo bakery at the corner of
Northampton Street and Wood Avenue. That also is expected to open next summer.
“These two health centers will be located in two very
familiar areas, which will make it convenient for people to access health care
services at their moment of need,” said Dr. Brian Nester, president and CEO of
LVHN.
“While these two locations are separated by less than
three miles, the centers serve two very unique populations who have asked us to
bring care closer to where they live and work,” Nester said.
Once the projects are complete, it will bring LVHN’s
total number of health centers in Northampton County to five, joining
facilities at Bangor, Bath and Bethlehem Township. LVHN has numerous health
centers in Lehigh, Berks, Bucks, Luzerne and Schuylkill counties.
