Revel remains closed as Straub lacks key permits

The self-imposed mid-June deadline to reopen the former Revel casino has come and gone. A week after owner Glenn Straub insisted the boardwalk property was ready for the public, he still reportedly lacks the necessary paperwork for city officials to clear the Revel for reopening.

Inspectors were unable to go through the massive, vacant property Tuesday since Straub lacked a liquor license from state gaming regulators, a temporary certificate of occupancy from the city and a permit from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

Dale Finch, inspection and licensing director for the city, said Straub’s company lacked its alarm system reports and sprinkler system certification.

“Once they have the proper paperwork, we will go back and finish,” Finch said Tuesday afternoon.

The holdup is nothing new for Straub. The Florida developer, who bought the waterfront hotel and casino for $82 million, has dragged out other steps in the process to make the property safe and ready for the public.

Meanwhile other casino properties in the Shore resort continue to take steps to attract more visitors. The Tropicana just completed renovations that totaled $40 million and the Borgata is ready to debut its new beer garden and outdoor pool on July 1 – the same date workers at several Atlantic City casinos could walk off the job.
