Blue Mountain looks to build condo hotel

Those who enjoy skiing or tubing the slopes at Blue Mountain Ski Area in Lower Towamensing Township may soon have the option of living there, as well.

Plans are in the works for the Carbon County resort to build a multistory luxury condominium hotel, with people acquiring ownership through the Vista Lodge Residence Club. Vista Lodge would be the hotel name, according to a news release.

The resort has a need for onsite lodging to be a four season vacation destination, said Tricia Matsko, sales and marketing director for Blue Mountain. The ultimate goal of the project is to provide overnight lodging to the resort’s guests, she said.

The estimated cost to build the hotel would be $20 million to $30 million.

The residences, available to own or rent, would range from studio, one, two and three bedrooms, furnished and professionally decorated with full kitchens.

The resort wants to bring upscale amenities to the hotel, including an indoor/outdoor heated pool, fitness room, owner’s clubroom, private storage lockers and adjoining restaurant and lounge. Valet parking, bell service, owner concierge, room service, 24/7 front desk and spa services are examples of the types of services the resort wants to offer. All residences will come with full property management, an optional rental program and additional club benefits.

The planned site for the Vista Lodge will be adjoining the Summit Lodge at the top of Blue Mountain. It would be built along the Vista ski trail, offering a ski-in/ski-out experience, according to the resort.

The resort plans to have architectural designs of condo styles available by early spring and is encouraging people to sign up for the resort’s mailing list to receive information.

The resort said it is too early to determine the exact pricing for ownership. It anticipates a sales launch in early December, which would be the first opportunity to buy condominiums.

Depending on several factors, including interest from patrons, architectural designs and local permitting, the resort would start construction in spring 2017, with an opening date near the end of 2018.
