St. Luke's University Health Network's new hospital in
Monroe County is on track to open next October.
Officials gave a construction update Thursday as network
employees, physicians, administrators and community stakeholders came together
for a “topping out” ceremony at the site of the future $80 million hospital on
Route 611 in Bartonsville, Stroud Township.
Beam “topping out” ceremonies are part of a longtime
industry tradition to celebrate the highest point during construction. The beam
was signed by event attendees before being placed on the tallest part of the
180,000-square-foot building, to be known as St. Luke’s Hospital – Monroe
Campus.
“The … 1,255 tons of steel cost an additional $250,000
compared to foreign-made steel,” said Richard A. Anderson, president & CEO
of St. Luke’s University Health Network.
The steel used in the project was manufactured in
Arkansas, Indiana and Virginia to be fabricated into beams at Levan Associates
Inc. in Emmaus.
The four-story hospital will offer 108 private
patient-rooms, including 12 beds for critical care, a large emergency room,
helipad, operating rooms and cardiac catheterization lab.
Anderson estimated the campus will be host to more than
350 permanent jobs.
Roofing, exterior and interior framing are expected to
begin this month, followed by glass window installation by East Stroudsburg
glazier, Mesko Glass, later this year.
Once completed, the Monroe campus will be the seventh
hospital owned and operated by St. Luke’s University Health Network.
