PHA looking for new office space

The Philadelphia Housing Authority is seeking to consolidate several of its offices and departments into a single site in Center City.

The agency is looking for roughly 300,000 square feet in a downtown office market that doesn’t have that much contiguous vacant space lingering around in too many buildings.

One Franklin Plaza is one of the few likely candidates that is under consideration. That building totals 600,000 square feet at 16th and Race streets. It is one of two Center City buildings GlaxoSmithKline vacated when it relocated to the Navy Yard. It is owned by CommonWealth REIT.

The agency is now based at 12 S. 23rd St. but has some groups scattered in different locations.

For the now, PHA isn’t commenting on its search, what sort of time frame it’s looking at and whether it is interested in buying or leasing.

“At this time PHA has not solidified any plans in regards to a search for space in Philadelphia,” said Glynnis Richard, a PHA spokeswoman.
