New Aker ship order at $418 million

Aker Philadelphia Shipyard announced Wednesday that it has contracts to build two 3,600-ton container ships for Matson Navigation Company valued at $418 million.

Aker is currently constructing two tankers for an ExxonMobil Corp. affiliate SeaRiver Maritime Inc.

The shipyard announced in August an agreement to build four, and potentially as many as eight, tankers for Crowley Maritime Corp. All these orders will keep the yard busy into 2018. - Linda Loyd
