Blatstein: Wynn never 'truly invested' in Philadelphia

One of Wynn Resorts' competitors in the Philadelphia market said he is not surprised Wynn abruptly withdrew its casino proposal.

Bart Blatstein, who is one of five remaining developers vying for one casino license in Philadelphia, said that Wynn’s decision comes on the heels of similar cancellations, including his 2010 reversal on the Foxwoods Philadelphia Casino project.

“It’s pretty wild, but I’m not surprised,” said Blatstein, who was boarding a plane in Las Vegas.

In a separate statement released through a spokesman, Blatstein said: “I respect Mr. Wynn and his track record of success in the gaming industry, but I never felt that he was truly invested in our marketplace.”

Blatstein’s proposal calls for converting the former home of the Philadelphia Inquirer, at 400 N. Broad St., into The Provence, which would have a casino, retail and entertainment venues.
