PNC opens new concept branch in Malvern

Could this be a future opportunity for fit-out or the ground-up marketplace?
PNC Bank said it is piloting its latest branch concept in a newly opened Malvern location. The bank said it has dial goals of providing a higher tech banking experience and learning more about the needs of its customers through enhanced interaction.
Pittsburgh-based PNC, the fourth largest bank by deposits in the Philadelphia region, the Malvern location is one of two pilot branches for this new concept, with the other being in western Pennsylvania. The Malvern site opened last week in the Uptown Worthington project on 10 National Avenue, which is near the intersection of routes 202 and 29.
PNC spokesman Jason Beyersdorfer said Malvern was selected because the area was due for a new branch and customers there tend to be more comfortable with new technology.
Here is what you will find if you visit:
• There will be no teller or teller windows. Instead, there will be a solution center with PNC customer service personnel trained to handle a variety of banking needs.
•All transactions will be conducted via iPads or five `Smart’ ATMs that are envelope free and dispense cash in denominations as low as $1.
•Video conferencing for advice on a mortgage or treasury management
• A discovery table with touch-screen computers and iPads for demos of mobile deposit, Virtual Wallet and other products
Beyersdorfer said if the Malvern location succeeds, PNC will look to expand its new branch concept elsewhere.
