The Philadelphia region was among the metropolitan areas that experienced an uptick in construction employment. Construction work increased in 185 of 339 areas between May 2012 and May 2013, according to data released today by the Associated General Contractors of America. It dropped in 115 regions and was unchanged in 39. The overall trend is that construction employment has continued to rise as the private sector steadily increases the number of residential and non-residential projects. In the Philadelphia area, construction employment rose by 2,100 jobs, or by 3 percent to 66,700. Of the 339 metro areas, Philadelphia ranked 136, according to Associated General Contractors analysis. Statewide, construction employment slightly fell by 200 jobs, or 1 percent, to 227,400.
