Upscale apartments targeted for Bethlehem

A local development firm said it would start construction of a multistory luxury apartment building in Bethlehem in the next 60 days. The $4 million Chelsea Commons includes one- and two-bedroom upscale units in a three-and-a-half story building behind Roosevelt’s 21st, a bar/restaurant on East Elizabeth Avenue.

The 30-unit apartment site would be built over two long-dormant parking lots on Chelsea Avenue near Moravian College in Bethlehem.

“All necessary approvals are in place,” said Robert de Beer, director of development for Peron Development LLC, a company based at the law firm Florio Perrucci Steinhardt & Fader in Bethlehem.

The company obtained extensive soil samples of the site that showed it could accommodate the building, he added.

USA Architects, which has an office in Easton, is the architectural firm for the project, he said.

The developer is hoping to bring market-rate apartments to the site.

“We are still working on what the leasing rates would be,” de Beer said.
