In the latest of what has been a series of moves and
decisions impacting the company, Shire Pharmaceuticals is relocating its
remaining local presence to office space in Exton, Pa.
This means a total of 400,000 square feet of office space
in four buildings will be completely vacated in Chesterbrook Corporate Center
in Wayne, Pa., where the company had made its home.
Shire has been on the move since it got a new chief
executive officer two years ago and, in the same year, decided to pull the plug
on constructing a new headquarters in Malvern, Pa. That was a move that stunned
the real estate market since it had been a deal that was so far down the road in
terms of design and approvals.
Even with that decision, the company had expected to keep
a segment of its operations in Chesterbrook, but Shire announced to employees
Wednesday that it planned to move about 250 people to 150,777 square feet at
730 Stockton Drive in Exton, said Gwen Fisher, a company spokeswoman.
The building is owned by Hankin Group.
Shire looked at several options and criteria before
making this decision, Fisher said. “We wanted to bring everyone together under
one roof,” she said.
