Deitz & Watson breaking ground on $50 million Northeast Philly plant after devastating fire

Dietz & Watson is set to break ground today on a $50 million distribution center within the Frankford Arsenal in the Tacony section of Northeast Philadelphia.

The 200,000-square-foot building will bring more than 150 new jobs to the region. The facility will also employ approximately 700 workers from the company's Delanco N.J. facility which was destroyed by a fire last fall.

There was concern that the company would not stay in the area after the fire.

To make it happen, the city bought 50 acres of land on the northern end of the Frankford Arsenal from Mark Hankin, owner of the arsenal, along with seven acres of recreational property from the state. Of the 57 total acres, the city sold 20 acres to Dietz & Watson, retained 30 acres that it will market through the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corp. and gave the seven acres, which is a boat launch, to the city’s parks and recreation department.
