The Carpenter's Union Local 8 signed a collective bargain
agreement through May 10, according to Pete Peterson, spokesperson for the
board of directors of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority.
The Pennsylvania Convention Center is in process of making
labor calls, so they expect carpenters to be back to work within the next few
hours.
“We’re pleased with the news. Hopefully, we can continue to
improve the ability to attract new shows and events to the center, and this is
a good starting point,” Peterson said. “Hopefully, we can work together to
fulfill the promise of the center as an economic engine for the region and
supporter for our tens of thousands of hospitality jobs.”
The two sides had been embroiled in a battle over work-rule
changes.
The carpenter's union said it was locked out after calling
an end to their strike late Thursday evening. Officials at SMG, the private
company that now runs the convention center said the workers were not locked
out. The company just made other plans to help them wrap up the American
Academy of Neurology(AAN).
The coming week should be interesting.
