A short-term deal has been struck between the carpenters
union and the Pennsylvania Convention Center. They will not be walking a picket
line, for now.
The Carpenters Union Local 8 went on strike Thursday while
both sides were talking about proposed new work rules.
Pennsylvania Convention Center spokesman Pete Peterson says
things broke down when a management committee asked for more time to consider a
deal proposed by the union.
"They said they needed some more time to review it and
determine whether or not it would fulfill the needs and expectations and of its
customers," Peterson said. "The committee went back to the carpenters
and officially said give us some more time to review this we have some
questions that need to be answered. The carpenters officially said no and went
on strike."
Peterson says now both sides have agreed to a temporary deal
that gets the carpenters back to work.
"We expect them to play a role in the move out of our
current show the American Academy of Neurology and various upcoming events like
the Broad Street Run this weekend," he said.
The temporary deal runs through May 10th.
