A new hotel will be constructed at the corner of 33rd and
Chestnut streets in University City.
Hospitality 3 of New York entered in a long-term lease on
the site with Drexel University and will construct a 212-room Study Hotel on
the property. The building will total 145,000 square feet and include a
105-seat restaurant, fitness center and 7,000 square feet of meeting space.
Digsau, a Philadelphia architectural firm, designed the
structure.
“A hotel that meets the needs of an academic community is
the natural next step in University City’s evolution, and the Study Hotels
concept is a great fit,” said John A. Fry, president of Drexel University in a
statement.
The concept caters to college and university markets and was
developed by Paul McGowan of Hospitality 3. The idea was first tested in New
Haven, Conn., where Yale University is located and proved a success.
The hotel in University City is scheduled to be completed by
2016.
