A plan to create
a central agency dedicated to facilitating the sale of vacant lots or empty
buildings in Philadelphia has taken a step forward.
The City
Council's Public Property and Public Works Committee approved a plan to create
the "land bank." Proponents of the plan say it provides a quicker way
to get those parcels into the hands of developers.
The legislation
was sponsored by Councilwoman Maria Quinones Sanchez and Councilman Bobby Henon.
The next step is for the legislation to go before the full City Council. A
decision is expected by the end of the year.
