Next month, Moravian College of Bethlehem will break
ground on a $23 million academic building on its Main Street campus to be named
in honor of the former CEO of East Penn Manufacturing.
Michael Wilson, spokesman for Moravian College, said the
building should be ready for a fall 2017 opening, with construction finished by
next summer.
The 55,000 square-foot-building, to be named the Sally
Breidegam Miksiewicz Center for Health Sciences, will honor Breidegam
Miksiewicz, an ’84 alumna who was a member of the Moravian College board of
trustees from 2008 until she died at age 52 in 2014, according to a news
release. She served as the CEO and vice chairwoman of East Penn Manufacturing
in Lyon Station.
The building will include enhanced technology, classrooms
and research labs for Moravian’s health sciences, nursing, public health and
other health-related programs.
“In addition to distinguishing herself in the business
world, Sally was an exceptional and vibrant member of the board of trustees,”
said Bryon Grigsby, president of Moravian, in a statement.
He said she was an early supporter of the health sciences
facility and someone who was passionate about her love for Moravian College.
The design-build facility, by J.G. Petrucci Co. Inc. of
Bethlehem and Asbury, N.J., will go up at the corner of Main and West Laurel
streets. ESa Architects is the designer. Moravian College is planning a
groundbreaking ceremony May 10.
