After
31 years as president, Don Mowery has turned the keys over to another midstate
face to run the day-to-day operations at Silver Spring Township-based R.S.
Mowery & Sons Inc.
The
family-owned construction company,
which finished 2014 with $72.2 million in revenue, has named David Cross as
president and COO.
Mowery
will continue to serve as CEO and chairman of the company's board.
Cross
most recently served as president of management solutions for Rock Commercial Real Estate LLC
in York. He is chairman of the York Redevelopment Authority and a board member
of the Modern Transit Partnership in Harrisburg.
He
was president and COO at Manchester Township-based Wagman Construction Inc.
from 1997 to 2011.
"This
is my area of expertise and my passion," Cross said of construction.
He
said his goal early on is to take in the culture of the 90-year-old company.
There will be no wholesale changes, just incremental improvements to continue
growing the 55-person business, he said. "Mowery has been a very well-run
company for a long time. I'd be lying if I said I'm going to turn this place
upside down."
R.S
Mowery remains busy with big-box
warehouse projects in the region, including a speculative build at interstates 78 and
81 in Union Township. It has a library project underway for Wilson
College in Franklin County and it's busy with renovations at Strawberry Square
in Harrisburg.
Given
the continued industrial growth in the region and overall work volume, Perry
Heath, the company's director of business development, said he expects year-end
revenue to exceed last year's total.
