Construction to start on $10M personal and memory care community

Kay Builders of Lower Macungie Township will break ground Friday on a 63,000-square-foot personal and memory care facility.
The company will build the site for Heather Glen Senior Living at Blue Barn Road and Oak View Drive in Upper Macungie Township.

The estimated cost is $10 million, said Joseph Cimerola, CEO of LifeCare Holdings LLC in Lower Macungie Township. The project should be finished by late spring or early summer, he said.

His business is a consulting, management and development company for the senior living industry. LifeCare will manage the community once construction is finished.

Citing a strong need for personal and memory care, LifeCare Holdings performed a market study 18 months ago and found the site to be a good area for the demographics of senior living in the Greater Lehigh Valley, Cimerola said.

“You haven’t seen any real strong development in senior living,” he said. “It has been quite slow for some time since the recession.”

The Heather Glen model is all rentals, Cimerola said. The development will have 62 personal care suites and 40 suites for people diagnosed with dementia and memory care problems.

Kay Builders is working with LifeCare in the planning and design. The architect is John Lee of Lee Architectural Associates in Bethlehem, Cimerola said.
