Amazon.com plans to open a new 1 million-square-foot
distribution center in Carteret, in central New Jersey, the company said in a
statement Monday.
The facility, together with an existing center in
Robbinsville, will bring Amazon's total footprint in the state to 2.5 million
square feet, the company said.
The Carteret facility will create "hundreds" of
full-time jobs when it opens, according to the company. Amazon spokesman Aaron
Toso said in an e-mail that he could not give a more specific number of jobs or
estimate of when the center would open.
The company was not disclosing its budget for the
facility, he said.
