Butz lands $1.5M contract for new Allentown high school

Alvin H. Butz Inc. of Allentown has been awarded the contract for renovations to a new high school for the Allentown School District.

The new high school is a partnership between the school district and Building 21, an organization that partners with communities and school districts to design, open and operate new high schools.

Butz will take the lead on the $1.5 million project, which will have two parts.

The first phase involves renovations to 35,000 square feet of space in an existing building at 265 Lehigh St. It will include 12 classrooms and one laboratory, a cafeteria and kitchen, administrative offices and a nurse’s office.

Work will be completed over three months during the summer, with completion of phase one expected in August.

Work on phase two will occur in summer 2016.

The school will initially house 150 ninth-graders. The district will gradually increase the building’s capacity to 600 students over a four-year period.
