Construction jobs accounted for 3.7 percent of the
nonfarm jobs in Pennsylvania in January, which was up from 3.5 percent in
January 2014, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Preliminary jobs data for January included 212,800 construction
jobs. Last January, BLS reported 203,300 construction jobs in the commonwealth.
Compared to other industries, construction is one of the
smallest in Pennsylvania. By percentage of nonfarm employment, it is larger
than mining and logging (0.7 percent) and information (1.5 percent).
Pennsylvania's largest sector is education and health
services at 20.6 percent, followed by trade, transportation and utilities at
19.5 percent and professional and business services at 13 percent, according to
the BLS.
Government accounts for 12.3 percent of nonfarm jobs in
Pennsylvania, while manufacturing jobs make up 9.9 percent, followed by leisure
and hospitality at 8.9 percent.
