Because of a failure to ensure adequate safeguards
covered the voting process, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
Local 29 in Pittsburgh recently agreed to conduct a new election for the fourth
delegate to the international convention. The Office of Labor-Management
Standards' investigation found that ballots were given to a candidate to be
hand-delivered to voting members, and the voted ballots were then returned to
the candidate for mailing. As a result of this lapse in safeguards, the
election for fourth delegate may have been affected. The new election will take
place on or before Dec. 11.
