The
former Chambersburg Central Junior High School has a new owner and a revamped
plan for the future.
The
Franklin
County Area Development Corp. announced it has bought the building
and will redevelop it into a mixed-use complex with the project starting in the
spring.
Built in 1908 and expanded in both 1930 and the 1950s, the building is approximately 130,000 square feet. The plan is to develop the building into market-rate housing and community uses.
“The project reflects (the corporation’s) commitment to a community-based approach to economic development,” said L. Michael Ross, president for the corporation, in a news release. “We welcome the opportunity to support the continued redevelopment of downtown Chambersburg.”
The school is at 285 E. Queen St.
The corporation is partnering with Harrisburg architecture firm McKissick Associates Architects PC which specializes in community architecture and adaptive reuse of older buildings, according to the news release.
Ross did not immediately return a phone message for further comment.
