New Jersey residents are closely split on allowing casino
gambling outside of Atlantic City, according to Fairleigh Dickinson
University's PublicMind poll.
About half oppose an expansion, while 42 percent favor it,
with a slight preference for a casino in the Meadowlands over one at Monmouth
Park Racetrack.
The remaining 8 percent either had no opinion or declined to
participate.
The poll was based on interviews from July 14 through July
21 with 819 New Jersey residents 18 and older. The poll had a margin of error
of plus or minus 3.4 percent.
The poll came out on the day potential buyers of the
bankrupt Revel are due. If more than one bid is received by Revel's bankruptcy
lawyers in New York, a closed-door auction will be held Thursday.
