Finally: City reaches tentative deal with its biggest union, District Council 33

District Council 33 has a deal at last.

After five years of on-and-off bargaining and bickering, the City of Philadelphia has reached a tentative agreement with its largest municipal union, AFSCME District Council 33, Mayor Nutter announced Friday morning.

If the union's members, who include thousands of trash haulers and other blue-collar city workers, ratify the deal, they will get a 3.5-percent wage increase effective Sept. 1 and an additional 2.5 percent boost next July.

DC 33 members had gone seven years without a raise.
