Serfass wins contract for Allentown health care facility expansion

Serfass Construction of South Whitehall Township earned a contract to build a 20,000-square-foot plant expansion for Hospital Central Services Cooperative Inc. of Allentown.

Serfass will serve as the construction manager for the project. No start date has been determined, according to Kevin Serfass, vice president of Serfass.

“It’s currently in the design stage; I know they want to start as soon as possible,” he said.

The not-for-profit organization, at 2139 28th St., serves the health care industry with linens and operates a linen washing facility at the Allentown plant.

“Overall, they are a growing operation,” Serfass said.

The facility has large washing and drying machines and the structural steel has to support huge bags of wet linens that hang from the ceiling, Serfass said.

The linens are distributed to hospitals and health care facilities in the area, he said.

Another architect that specializes in this type of facility will be involved in the design process of the expansion, he said.

Serfass has also done work for Miller-Keystone Blood Center, a subsidiary of HCSC.

Representatives from HCSC could not be reached for comment.
