Drexel University has completed a $13.2 million renovation
of one of its on-campus buildings and relocated its school of public health to
University City from Center City.
This is the first time an entire academic unit at Drexel
University has moved from Center City to its University City Campus.
The school of public health had been housed in the Bellet
building at 1505 Race St. with some other related operations in Three Parkway
at 1601 Cherry St. Those divisions have now moved into Nesbitt Hall at 33rd and
Market streets on the Drexel campus.
Nesbitt Hall dates back to the 1960s. The building totals
78,000 square feet and some of the upgrades include adding instructional
computer labs, large research spaces, an environmental and industrial hygiene
laboratory, as well as collaboration areas and conference spaces.
Strada/UJMN of Philadelphia designed the interior
renovations.
The School of Public Health will not take up the entire
building. It will occupy the upper floors while the ground floor will be used
by other Drexel operations. The Center for Hunger-Free Communities and staff
from the Healing Hurt People program will remain in Center City.
