With last casino license up for grabs, public sustainability hearings announced

The public will soon get to hear from the five casino operators vying for one remaining casino license in Philadelphia.

Public suitability hearings have been scheduled for January by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. This gives the casino operators a chance to sell the public and the Gaming Board on why they have a better plan than the others.

The four-hour meetings will kick off Jan. 28 and end Jan. 30. They will be broadcast live on the Gaming Board's website.

The Gaming Board members are looking for evidence about each applicant’s character, operational and financial suitability, diversity plans, community impact, plans for the prevention of compulsive gaming and other issues. The board will also take into account written comments from the public. (The deadline for written comments is Dec. 31, 2013.)

The hearing schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. - PA Gaming Ventures, LLC (Hollywood Casino Philadelphia) with proposed location at 700 Packer Avenue
