Teamsters aim to organize corrections and law enforcement officers

The Teamsters union is looking to organize law enforcement and correctional officers in Pennsylvania.

The organization announced the formation of the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement and Correctional Officers Association. The association will represent more than 2,000 law enforcement officers (police, correctional officers etc.) working in more than 100 Pennsylvania borough and county departments.

"Our police and correctional officers put their lives on the line every day and they deserve strong representation on the job," said Bill Hamilton, president of the Pennsylvania Conference of Teamsters. "This new, statewide association can and will provide an increased level of representation and protection that is unmatched in our state."

Michael Filler, Director of the Teamsters Public Services Division said it's important to combine the resources and experience of local Teamster unions.

The Teamsters Public Services Division represents 50,000 law enforcement officers across the country including officers at correctional facilities, city police forces and sheriff's deputies.
